Award for Selenomethionine and ForsLean® - February 2006
Sabinsa Corporation, a manufacturer and supplier of high quality herbal extracts, cosmeceuticals, minerals and specialty fine chemicals, was awarded a product merit award by Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) for their branded L- (+) Selenomethionine compound, Selenium SeLECT ®, and an investment in science and Research award for Forslean ® , the company’s branded and patented coleus forskohlii extract ingredient used to improve body composition.

Sabinsa Corporation, has been awarded the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for 2005 in the Enabling Technology/Small Company category for US Patent 6,849,645 for the invention titled “Method of increased bioavailability of nutrients and pharmaceutical preparations with tetrahydropiperine and its analogues and derivatives”. The Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards, which recognizes the most revolutionary product innovations and important scientific breakthroughs originating in New Jersey, was presented at the Research & Development Council's annual fall dinner on November 3, 2005, at the North Maple Inn, Basking Ridge. Sabinsa Corporation also received this award in 2004 for its U.S. Patent #5,804,596 for the invention titled, “Method of preparing a forskolin composition for use in promoting lean body mass and treating mood disorders”.
Companies throughout New Jersey are invited to submit patents for consideration for the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards. Each patent is reviewed thoroughly by the Council, which is comprised of senior representatives from industry, academia and government. Winners are then chosen based on their exceptional merit.
The Research and Development Council of New Jersey, which has instituted this award is a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating an environment that supports the advancement of research and development throughout New Jersey. Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for ForsLean from Research & Development Council of New Jersey , USA

Sabinsa Corporation received the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for the year 2004. This annual award instituted by the Research & Development Council of New Jersey, honors the most important scientific breakthroughs and revolutionary product innovations originating in New Jersey . Awards are given in various industrial categories after careful consideration by the Council, which is constituted by leading professionals from industry and academia. Sabinsa's U.S. patent (No. 5,804,596) for ForsLean® was the entry that received this honor in the Consumer/Small Company category. The patent covers the method of preparing a forskolin composition from Coleus forskohlii extract and the use of forskolin for promoting lean body mass and treating mood disorders
The award was presented at the Council's Annual Awards Dinner on November 11, 2004 , at the Liberty Science Center, New Jersey. The other winners of the 2004 awards include multinational giants such as Celgene Corporation, Merck & Co., Inc., Schering-Plough Research Institute, Wyeth, International Specialty Products, Engelhard Corporation and Exxon-Mobil Research & Engineering . Earlier, Sabinsa Corporation was a finalist for the award in the Health & Medicine category in the year 1999 for the patent on Bioperine®.
This is the second award for ForsLean® in the innovation arena. The product earlier won the Best New Product award in 2001 at Nutracon. Prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor for Dr Majeed
Dr. Muhammed Majeed Recognized for Lifelong Service
PISCATAWAY , NJ , May 15, 2004
Dr. Muhammed Majeed, founder and CEO of Sabinsa Corporation, a manufacturer and supplier of herbal extracts and specialty fine chemicals, was chosen by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) to receive its prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
This award, which is sanctioned by the U.S. Congress, is presented to Americans of diverse origins to recognize their leadership, commitment and service to their own ethnic group and to American society. Dr. Majeed was presented with the medal at a gala event held on May 15th, 2004 , on Ellis Island , New York .
“I am very proud to receive this honor and be recognized for the work I do here in the United States and in India ,” said Dr. Majeed. “I believe strongly in NECO's mission to preserve and celebrate ethnic diversity, and to promote advancement and tolerance among all ethnic groups.”
Muhammed Majeed was born and raised in Kerala , India . He emigrated to the United States in 1975, shortly after graduating with a degree in pharmacy from Kerala University . Upon arriving in the United States , Majeed began working for top pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Inc., Carter Wallace and Paco Research in Progressively responsible research positions. He also continued his graduate studies, receiving his Ph.D. in Industrial Pharmacy from St. John's University , New York in 1986. In 1988, Dr. Majeed founded Sabinsa Corporation, a company that was set up to market more than thirty standardized botanical extracts, several of which are derived from Indian based plant materials, for use in various supplements and products. Additionally, he established Sami Labs Ltd., a research group and manufacturing facility located in India that operates in conjunction with Sabinsa to develop nutraceuticals and fine chemicals.
The Ellis Island Medal of Honor was created in 1986 to pay tribute to the many ancestral groups who through struggle, sacrifice and success helped build the United States into a great nation, and to recognize individuals who continue that tradition today. Previous recipients of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor include: former presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George Bush and Bill Clinton, Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel, Bob Hope, Rudy Giuliani and Muhammad Ali.
